Gaming Department

The Gaming and Lotteries Division is responsible for the licencing, monitoring and regulation of all lottery, including raffles, bingos and prize promotions and gaming activities which are conducted in Jamaica. These activities are presently being conducted or will be soon, by various licensees and others as follows:

  • National Lotto;
  • At least six other lottery type games;
  • Various daily prize promotions and competitions;
  • Gaming machine operations;
  • Other gaming type activities - primarily unlicenced.

The Division is presently staffed as follows:

  • Director;
  • Senior Inspector - one;
  • Inspectors - five;
  • Assistant Auditor - one;
  • Senior Secretary.

Among the significant, not detailed, duties and responsibilities which are routinely carried out in the primary activity areas are:

  • National Lotto - twice weekly:
    • preparatory duties at the licensee's head office;
    • duties at the television studio;
    • closing activities at the licensees head office;
    • report preparation and submission.
  • Daily Instant and other lottery type games:
    • preparatory duties at the licensees' head offices;
    • duties at the television studios;
    • closing activities at the licensees head offices;
    • report preparation and submission.
  • Prize promotions and competitions - daily:
    • review of newspapers;
    • processing of applications;
    • attendance at drawings and presentations;
    • auditing;
    • report preparation and submission.
  • Gaming machine operations - daily:
    • receipt of applications for licenses for prescribed premises and the operations of gaming machines;
    • inspection of premises;
    • inspection of gaming machines;
    • other processing activities;
    • preparation of processing reports;
    • review of reports;
    • preparation of recommendations;
    • decision making;
    • preparation of licences;
    • follow-up activities on unlicensed operations.
